Male Body Shaming

I recently found this video about body shaming on YouTube. I felt it was extremely powerful for three reasons. Firstly, it highlights the topic of male insecurity. As I stated in my last post, this is an issue that is not covered regularly in the media or talked about in society in general.
Secondly, it also sends a powerful message to society that men suffer just as much as women. In the video, the men talk heavily about comparison and how they compare themselves to each other, male magazine models, men on social media, just as much as women do. I feel this is significant as I do believe that in a world where social media, magazines and TV are so prominent, insecurities are felt like never before.
Lastly, and perhaps the most important point this video highlights: learning to love yourself. This can sometimes be hard, especially in this day in age when videos and pictures of the 'perfect' body are shared so widely, it's hard not to compare yourself to others.
However, the fact that the men in this video are able to look beyond their insecurities and focus on their positive points is inspiring as firstly, they are able to talk about the issue, as men often find this hard and secondly, they are able to share their advice on how to gain body confidence and help people who are going through something similar, feel better about themselves. I hope that this video inspires other men to talk about the issue, raise awareness of it and perhaps share their own stories through videos and blogs.
