Plus-Size Male Modelling
Whilst researching online today, I came across a video on YouTube that was so inspiring, I had to share it. American actor Zach Miko, last year became IMG's first plus-size male model. IMG, who look after models like Lara Stone and Gigi Hadid, are the first agency to sign plus-size male models. However, after seeing the success that it has had, hopefully, more plus-size male modelling agencies are set up around the world in the future.
The video that is linked below, incorporates the background information that I have mentioned above, but more importantly, it is a campaign video. Zach talks of wanting to make young men feel comfortable in their body. The main quote that stood out for me was “I learned to love myself and my body through modelling.” I felt this was so powerful as it is the most important aspect of life for anyone men, women, adults, teenagers, children, you have to love who you are.
In the clip, Zach talks about diversity and inclusion and highlighting the fact there should be more 'Big and Tall' male models in the industry, just like women highlighting the fact that there should be more 'curvy' women on the catwalk.
I feel that this is so inspiring as just like female modelling, the only male models I ever see are extremely thin or have washboard abs and perfect V shapes. However, in reality, that is NOT what all men look like and to have plus-size male models like Zach who people can look to as role models is so positive. It not only makes people feel better about themselves but makes them feel included in society.
